The story of Christiaan, as told from an 11-year-old boy's point of view, is about the price of a boy's innocence in the search of something better. The Story of Christiaan is a story of a young boy trying to find himself in a strict and conservative Afrikaans community. Christiaan likes to tell stories and discover new things, but he is banned by his godly Christian father and obedient mother. He is a single child and lonely, until he meets Adriaan. A young man playing guitar and being reproached by the community because he is a little "different". Adriaan helps Christiaan find his true self, but everybody's lives start to fall apart. His white, god-fearing father and serving mother, deprives Christiaan of his freedom to tell stories, and with the death of his leftist grandmother, leads to the realization that there must be more to life than tradition and religious systems.
